Urban agriculture has emerged as one of the contemporary approaches in urban planning and design in response to challenges arising from population growth, climate change, and declining food security. Despite the expansion of this field, most existing studies have focused on its theoretical and managerial dimensions, while less attention has been paid to developing spatial design models in real contexts, particularly riverfront lands. This study was conducted with the aim of proposing an urban agriculture-based design model for the lands surrounding the Delambar River in Karaj City. The research employed a mixed-methods (qualitative–quantitative) approach. In the qualitative phase, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 experts in urban planning, architecture, environmental sciences, and agriculture, and the validity of the interview questions was confirmed by specialists. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis through open, axial, and selective coding, resulting in the development of a multidimensional framework comprising economic, social, environmental, and spatial–physical dimensions. In the quantitative phase, SWOT analysis and the QSPM matrix were used to evaluate the internal and external factors of the study area and to identify and prioritize intervention strategies. The integration of the qualitative and quantitative approaches provided the basis for formulating design requirements. Accordingly, and based on the extracted analyses, the design requirements including participatory agricultural gardens, educational and skill-development workshops, light accommodation spaces, local marketplaces, farm-based cafés and restaurants, event and recreational spaces, and experience-oriented pedestrian pathways were organized within a strategic plan. The findings indicate that this model can contribute to the regeneration of abandoned lands, the enhancement of urban quality of life, and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
